Super Smash Bros. Melee was the second installment in the series. A lot changed over the course of the sequel, but many of the moves and mechanics present in Melee live on to the current title, Ultimate.

The game saw massive commercial success and a thriving tournament and competitive scene with many people still enjoying its high skill ceiling, and simultaneous ease of access for casual players.
